Feeling and Looking Balanced: an Inspiring Conversation with Kathy Garrison, niche creator, advocate, entrepreneur and breast cancer thriver. “I can do this!” said Kathy Garrison, breast cancer survivor, almost 35 years ago when she and good friend Joanne Evans decided to open K and J’s Complete Woman Boutique supporting women needing intimate medical equipment like breast prosthetics, mastectomy products and more.
I am very blessed to have Kathy and her daughter Kristin Garrison-Smiha on this podcast.  They share personally of cancer experiences and healing.
Hearing Kathy’s story of how she “put on her prom shoes” and bravely created an amazing niche business serving the needs of woman fighting cancer is very inspiring.
Kathy Garrison, diagnosed at age 36, fought and won an intense and difficult battle with Triple Negative Breast Cancer from 1983-1989. Kathy, who had a radical mastectomy, chose not to have reconstruction.  One of the difficulties she experienced was finding a comfortable environment with a variety of options for her breast prosthetic and mastectomy bras.
“A woman deserves to feel and look balanced.” said Kathy while talking about both the physical and emotional healing women go through while dealing with their cancer experience.
Kathy not only created her Specialty Durable Medical Equipment company  but was also instrumental in  the groundbreaking Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act (WHCRA) being passed in 1998.
In addition she created “Why Me?”  A Support and Educational group for women regarding breast cancer.
Listen in as we laugh and cry about the series of God moments the ladies experienced on their journey of healing, influencing and making a difference.
