Since Thursday evening (16 January), heavy rains have fallen in most provinces of the country, especially in the west, which has led to flooding of roads, disruption of transport links even in large cities. Snowfall was observed in some areas. On Friday, a 39-year-old woman was reported dead after being washed away by water in a rural area of Bizerte province in the far north of Tunisia. On 17 January 2025, Professor Amer Bahba reported flooding of several rivers in the Sajanan region. He noted that 50 mm of rain had fallen in the region since 7 am, which led to a rise in water levels in a number of rivers, including in the Khenshir El Zaza region, towards the Sajan dam.
Due to bad weather following heavy rain and snow, Tunisian authorities today, Friday, suspended classes in 7 provinces: Kasserine, Bizerte, Jendouba, Beja, Siliana, Kef and Nabeul after record amounts of rain fell in recent hours.
