McDougal Gets Life with No Chance for Parole, LIVINGSTON, January 17, 2025 - This morning (01/17/25) a hearing was held in District Judge John Wells' courtroom in the case of 44 year old Don Steven McDougal, of Livingston. McDougal reached a plea bargain with Polk County District Attorney, Shelly Bush Sitton. McDougal was sentenced to life in prison with no chance, ever, of parole. McDougal pled guilty to aggravated murder of 11 year old Audrii Cunningham that occurred in February of 2024. During emotional impact statements, family members reminded McDougal of the pain caused to the family and the young life that he snuffed out. The grandmother stated that his punishment will never measure up to the crime that he committed, but that he will be facing God's judgement. Cunningham's grandmother told McDougal that he will burn in hell and that she'll never forgive. During the statements, McDougal stood with his lawyer by his side and looked down at the floor. After the brief hearing, McDougal was escorted out of the courtroom by a host of law enforcement and will ultimately end up in Texas Department of Corrections where he'll spend the rest of his life.
