Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)

Directed by Frank Capra, starring James Stewart and Jean Arthur. The film tells the story of Jefferson Smith, an idealistic and naïve young man who is unexpectedly appointed to the U.S. Senate. Once in Washington, he discovers widespread political corruption led by powerful politicians and business interests.
