I've been a lawyer for about a decade now, I work in tax law. I got a doctorate from a fantastic program at Georgetown. I got a bunch of fun letters behind my name.

When I started my career, I had very little mentoring from lawyers above me, and I had a lot of destructive behavior from above me, a lot of negativity, and unhelpful people.

Over the last 10 years, I have compiled a list of 5 rules and guideposts that professionals, not just lawyers, should live by as they move forward in their careers.

Number 1
Always ask questions.

Number 2,
I don't Know is a highly valid answer and is often the best answer you can get.

Number 3.
Always reread your work.

Number 4.
Always ask for feedback and a clear timeline when given an assignment.

Number 5
The client is the enemy.
