Kilauea Volcano Eruption Draws Crowds to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Aam News Desk

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park saw an influx of visitors on Wednesday as Kilauea volcano's eruption captivated onlookers.

The eruption, which began on December 23 at Kilauea's summit crater, has been intermittent, with pauses and resumptions. On Wednesday morning, the eruption restarted as a “small sluggish lava flow,” but quickly escalated into a dramatic lava fountain reaching approximately 200 feet (60 meters) high, according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

By the afternoon, park visitors were treated to a rare spectacle, observing two distinct lava fountains from designated overlooks. The observatory indicated that fountain heights might increase further as gas-rich lava continues to emerge.

Jessica Ferracane, spokesperson for the park, commented on the growing interest: “The park is already very busy with people eager to see the eruption, and we expect visitation to increase as the news spreads.”

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is home to the summits of two of the world’s most active volcanoes, Kilauea and Mauna Loa, making it a global attraction for volcanic activity enthusiasts.

The current eruption is visible from multiple public viewpoints within the park and poses no threat to homes or infrastructure.
