Donald Trump's "important" role in the Israel-Hamas ceasefire

Australian Strategic Policy Institute Senior Analyst Dr Malcolm Davis discusses US President-elect Donald Trump's "important" role in the Israel-Hamas ceasefire.

The deal has three phases, which will include a six-week ceasefire period, the gradual withdrawal of Israel's military and the release of hostages held by both parties.

"I think it is undeniable he played an important role – to suggest that he played no role, I think, is counter to the reality of the situation," Mr Davis told Sky News Australia.

"The threat that he made very clearly on many occasions that if the hostages are not released by the time he came to power, then all hell would break loose in the Middle East."
