Preparing a small batch of Organic Seed Starting Mix for making Plugs with a Soil Blocker Press.

I've tried making my own Organic Soil Blocker Seed Starting Mix many times over the years. It can be a little tricky getting the right combination of ingredients that will hold together and also provide the seedlings with optimal nutrients. This year I decided to start off with a good widely available and mostly prepared Coconut Coir based product. We're being nudged away from the traditional and apparently less environmentally friendly Sphagnum Peat based products. I like it just fine and with good results in the garden, but it's crumbly and doesn't hold together quite as well as peat. For that, I'm still adding enough Vermicompost (Worm Castings) to help it stick together into a Soil Block Cube. I also like that it adds some beneficial plant nutrients and micro organisms to the mix. This premade seed starting mix already has perlite, gypsum, poultry litter, feather meal, and sulfate of Potash already in it, so that saves me a little bit of time and trouble. I am "Old School" and still add "Green Sand" Glauconite just because I think that is the magic ingredient. Other than that, I'm going to wait and see how they grow before adding any additional organic fertilizers or Soil ammendments. I like that it has already been sifted to a small enough particle size to work in my Soil Blocker Plug Hand Press.
