Summary:
Special Week is shown to take her training far more earnestly and with assiduousness. Eventually, Trainer gives Team Spica some pep talk and states that Special should be ready for her upcoming race, the Kyoto Daishoten. When the day arrives for said race and although she's resolved to win, she places in 7th, leaving her flustered and heart broken.
El Condor returns to the academy from France and is greeted by her teammates. El Condor then visits Special during her training with her team. Perhaps unintentionally, El Condor speaks disparagingly about Special's recent race flop and is then dragged away by Grass Wonder. Trainer then chimes in and tries to motivate Special for the upcoming Tennoushou race and the sequential Japan Cup race. Wanting the team to take a rest before their next race, Trainer suggests that Special go home for the time being.
Back in her home town, Special is picked up by her mom and the two drive home together. En route, her mother imposes a running moratorium for Special. Elsewhere, Mejiro McQueen enjoys lunch with her siblings, Mejiro Dober and Mejiro Ryan, Tokai does karoke with Symboli, and Vodka and Daiwa go on a shopping trip. During this trip, the two spot racers Narita Brian and Biwa Hayahide; they then eavesdrop on their conversation. Meanwhile, Suzuka trains on the racetrack while Gold Ship, keeps track of her time. Just then, a winded Trainer arrives at the scene to inform the two about the Open Special that he wants Suzuku to take part in as her come back race. Although it hasn't been officially announced yet, Trainer asks to keep it under-wraps, however, Gold zips off frantically while "promising" to stay mums about it. At home, Special is tied to a post and when dinner is about to be served, she finds a stack of letters that she sent her, as well as, a journal of all of the races she partook in. After a brief talk with each other, they try to enjoy dinner, however, Special is held back by the rope she's tied too.
Suzuka contacts Special about her upcoming race in the Open Special, which takes place the day before Special's Japan Cup race. The other members of Team Spica are shown to have won their own respective races too. That night, under the stars, Special is gifted a horse shoe by her mother that she crafted with the engravings, "Be the best in Japan". They then have a heart to heart together and Special is allowed to run in the nearby field.
Returning to school, Team Spica meet in their base, and help train Special for her upcoming race. Afterward, in the dorms, Special shows Suzuku her new horseshoe and they then talk about how Special wants to make everyone happy. Special also states her resolve to beat Suzuka in a race, to which, Suzuka recites her dream to give something everyone in the world to dream of. Once her dream is realized, Suzuku and Special then promise to settle their rivalry together.
On the day of the Tennoushou race, Team Spica aside from Suzuka watch from the audience. The race then begins and Special wins by a large margin this time around.
