Cleaning the Soil Blocker Press with Dawn & Bleach

Hard to believe it's already mid-January and time to prepare for some indoor seed starting. I've had this little dirt plug soil blocking press for years and it still works great for starting a lot of seeds in a small space. Each plug is about 3/4 inch square; just right for germinating one seed per cube. I like to use it for germination testing and also for growing seedlings to be transplanted up to larger soil blocks or pots. This little handheld unit presses out 20 plugs at one time for a total of 300 plugs per standard size tray! As with all plant growing tools and containers, it is important to clean and scrub everything with mild soap first, then rinse off the soap with water. Next, you should disinfect everything with a solution of bleach and water, then rinse with water again. This helps to reduce the spread of bacterial and fungal plant diseases from one season to the next.
