Genesis Chapter 40: The Prisons of Dreams

Genesis Chapter 41: Pharaoh’s Dreams and Joseph’s Ascendancy

Two years later, Pharaoh has a perplexing dream that troubles him deeply. In his vision, he sees seven healthy cows followed by seven gaunt ones, and the skinny cows devour the fat ones without gaining strength. This eerie dream is soon followed by another, involving seven ears of grain, with thin, blighted ears swallowing the plump, full ones. Desperate for clarity, Pharaoh summons the wise men of Egypt, yet none can interpret the dreams. It is then that the chief butler recalls Joseph’s gift and recommends him to Pharaoh. Joseph is brought before the king and, with God’s guidance, accurately interprets the dreams—predicting seven years of abundance followed by seven years of famine. Impressed by Joseph’s wisdom, Pharaoh elevates him to a position of great power, appointing him as second-in-command over all of Egypt, signaling the beginning of Joseph’s remarkable rise from prison to palace.
