Morgan Geyser, now 22, is one of the Wisconsin girls convicted in the 2014 stabbing of her classmate Peyton Leutner, is now seeking an earlier release from a mental hospital. Geyser who was found guilty in 2017 for her involvement in the attack, is requesting a conditional release after spending over three years at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute in Oshkosh. Along with her co-defendant, Weier, Morgan Geyser, lured their friend into a forest after a sleepover and stabbed her 19 times. The girls left Peyton in the woods to die, but a passing cyclist found her and called for help.
The attack was motivated by their obsession with the fictional Slender Man character, whom the girls believed would harm them and their loved ones if they didn’t carry out the stabbing. At trial, Geyser explained that she believed Slender Man would kill her and those closest to her if she failed to act. Both girls were convicted of attempted second-degree intentional homicide but were deemed not criminally responsible due to mental illness. She was sentenced to 25 years in a state institution. During her time in the facility, she has been diagnosed with auditory and visual hallucinations and has reportedly continued to experience delusions involving Slender Man. Despite this, she has now requested an earlier release.
