Greenland is open to greater cooperation with the US after Trump's statements

We can see it as a threat, but also as an opportunity for broader cooperation.

The Prime Minister of Greenland, Mute Egede, has said he is willing to "increase cooperation with the United States," all this in the midst of the controversy unleashed by the statements of the future US president, Donald Trump, about his intention to annex the island, even threatening to take military action.

"We have begun to initiate a dialogue and to look for opportunities for cooperation with Trump," said Egede, who points directly to the possibilities offered by mining, a sector whose potential has not yet been developed on the island and in which US collaboration can be useful.

Egede has also referred to the recent statements of Trump's vice president, J.D. Vance, who has pointed out that "the use of force is not being considered," thus softening the tycoon's threats and clarifying that, in fact, the United States already has a military presence on the Atlantic island, reports 'Jyllands Posten'.

Despite everything, the Greenlandic prime minister has recognized the strategic importance of the island, which means that "it is not completely free of the tensions that exist in the world." "We can see it as a threat, but we can also see it as an opportunity for broader cooperation," he said.

Trump, who already proposed buying Greenland during his first term, stirred up the debate again at the end of last year and more recently has assured that he does not rule out even resorting to military or economic pressure measures to control both the island belonging to Denmark - and the Panama Canal.

In fact, the US president-elect, who will officially take office next Monday, sent his son Donald Trump Jr. to Greenland last week, a territory that enjoys broad autonomy from Denmark, despite the fact that Copenhagen controls key areas such as foreign policy and defense.
