"How Eating Sugar Triggers Acne: The Science Behind Pimples"
Summary :
When we consume foods high in refined sugar—like candies, sodas, pastries, or Any sweetened products—our blood sugar levels Spike rapidly. This rapid increase in blood sugar prompts the Pancreas to release a surge of insulin, A hormone responsible for helping cells absorb glucose from the bloodstream. But When insulin levels spike, it doesn’t just control blood sugar. It also affect other hormones in the body, particularly a group called Androgens. Androgens often associated with male traits, are present in everyone and They play a major role in regulating oil production in the skin. When insulin levels are high, they stimulate Androgen Production, which, in turn signals the Sebaceous glands in your skin to produce more sebum or oil.
Now, while oil is necessary for keeping skin hydrated, an excess of it can be Problematic. This increased oil production often mixes with Dead Skin cells on the skin’s surface, creating a sticky mixture that easily Clogs Pores. And when pores are clogged, it become an ideal breeding ground for a bacteria called Cutibacterium . As the bacteria multiply, your immune system reacts by sending white blood cells to the site to fight the infection.
During this process, white blood cells release inflammatory chemicals to kill the bacteria. Unfortunately, these chemicals also damage the surrounding skin tissue, leading to redness, swelling, and a burning sensation. Over time, the area fills with pus, resulting in pimples or acne.
