Paramount Movies has unveiled the official trailer for Millers in Marriage, a compelling new drama written and directed by Edward Burns. The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Morena Baccarin, Benjamin Bratt, Edward Burns himself, Brian d'Arcy James, Minnie Driver, Julianna Margulies, Gretchen Mol, Campbell Scott, and Patrick Wilson. Set to be released on February 21, 2025, Millers in Marriage promises to explore the complexities of relationships, ambition, and self-discovery.
The story centers on Eve Miller (played by Morena Baccarin), a former indie musician who finds herself in an unhealthy marriage. Seeking an escape, Eve develops a romantic interest in a music journalist, which sets the stage for a deep exploration of emotional turmoil and personal liberation. As Eve navigates her feelings, the dynamics within her family begin to shift, particularly for her sister Maggie (played by Minnie Driver), who is grappling with the evolving nature of her own marriage. Maggie’s career as a writer is beginning to surpass that of her husband, creating tension and unspoken struggles in their relationship.
Meanwhile, Renee (Julianna Margulies), a fashion executive, finds herself entangled with the third Miller sibling, Andy (Benjamin Bratt), despite the fact that Andy recently divorced her former colleague. This layer of intricate personal relationships forms the core of the narrative, delving into themes of love, betrayal, and ambition, all while examining the ties that bind the Miller family together and tear them apart.
Premiering at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival, Millers in Marriage has already garnered attention for its sharp writing, nuanced performances, and timely exploration of modern marriage. With Edward Burns at the helm, known for his keen eye for character-driven stories, the film is set to be a thought-provoking experience for audiences when it hits theatres in February 2025. The official trailer gives a glimpse into the emotional depth of the story, teasing the drama, humor, and heartache that await. Fans of ensemble casts and intimate, character-focused narratives can look forward to a film that is as insightful as it is entertaining.
1995 marks the 30th anniversary of Edward Burns’ directorial debut and breakthrough film, The Brother McMullen. Burns has been a New York indie stalwart ever since with films such as Sidewalk of New York, She’s The One, and Beneath the Blue Suburban Skies. Now he’s back with another story of complicated personal and professional entanglements with Millers in Marriage, his first movie in almost six years so it’s been a longer wait than normal.
As usual, Burns writes, directs, and co-stars in the film, joined by Gretchen Mol, Morena Baccarin, Benjamin Bratt, Brian d’Arcy James, Minnie Driver, Julianna Margulies, Campbell Scott and Patrick Wilson. In short, the entire ensemble is incredible. It’s par for the course for Burns, who premiered the film at TIFF last September.
On a personal note, seeing Campbell Scott with gray hair makes me feel very old. I still see him as the guy who taught Jesse Eisenberg a thing or two in Roger Dodger but that was 23 years ago (!!!).
