Montreal musician Mario Allard dies in tragic fall from balcony | Video

Montreal’s music community is mourning the loss of Mario Allard, a talented saxophonist who died in a tragic accident on Sunday. Allard, 44, fell from the third-floor balcony of his Plateau-Mont-Royal home while disposing of a Christmas tree.

According to Urgences-santé, Allard fell onto a metal fence and was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The news has left Quebec’s music scene in shock.

Fellow musicians and friends remember Allard as a devoted family man, skilled artist, and passionate educator. "He was a jovial, happy guy who embraced life fully,” said flutist Marie Fatima-Rudolf. “His energy and kindness will be deeply missed.”

Allard’s career spanned collaborations with prominent Quebec artists, including Robert Charlebois. Known for his versatility, he excelled in jazz, pop, and composition. Fellow musician Marilene Provencher-Leduc, who worked with Allard for years, emphasized the void his absence will leave in Montreal’s musical landscape. “He was always helping others and was deeply involved in the community,” she said.

Allard’s contributions extended beyond the stage, as he shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with aspiring musicians. His loss is being felt not only as an artistic blow but also on a personal level by those who knew him.

He is survived by his spouse and their 6-year-old son. The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of condolences from friends, fans, and colleagues.
