The S&P 500 index posted gains exceeding 20% in both 2023 and 2024, marking the first instance of back-to-back years of such strong performance since 1997 and 1998. In 1999, the index rose by 19.5%, narrowly missing a third consecutive year of 20% gains. However, these three years of rapid growth were followed by the onset of the Internet Bust in early 2000.
