Margarita Robles takes revenge on the soldier who CRITICIZED the Government
The recent decision by the Ministry of Defense, led by Margarita Robles, to suspend the military officer E.S. from employment and pay for publicly denouncing the inaction of Pedro Sánchez's Government in the face of the DANA that devastated Valencia has aroused deep concern among those who defend democratic values. The measure, described as "tremendous" by the military officer's lawyer, Francisco Esteban Hernández, not only calls into question freedom of expression within the Armed Forces, but also reveals a disturbing tendency towards authoritarianism, more typical of dictatorial regimes than of a European democracy.
In a context of despair after the tragedy, with 224 dead and entire towns under mud, E.S. raised his voice to denounce that, despite the deployment of troops in the Valencian Community, the authorities were preventing humanitarian assistance work. The video, which quickly went viral, showed the frustration of the military, detained in their actions while the population suffered. According to E.S. himself, "we have been in Valencia for 24 hours without doing anything at all," while the urgent needs of those affected remained unattended.
The response of the Ministry of Defense did not focus on resolving the criticism or improving the management of the tragedy, but on silencing the complainant. Relying on the Law on the Disciplinary Regime of the Armed Forces, the Ministry opened a file classified as a very serious offense, which resulted in the suspension and dismissal of the soldier from his post. The speed with which this sanction was carried out, while the reconstruction and assistance tasks remained incomplete, is a worrying reflection of the Executive's priorities: punishing criticism rather than guaranteeing effectiveness in emergency situations.
This action represents a dangerous precedent. Instead of valuing E.S.'s commitment to its humanitarian work, the Government has chosen to punish it, sending a clear message to the Armed Forces: any public questioning will be repressed. These types of measures, which restrict fundamental rights, place the Sánchez and Robles government on a dangerous path of censorship and control, undermining the principles of transparency and freedom that should guide a mature democracy.
