Alec Baldwin sues for malicious prosecution after judge dismissed case of fatal ‘Rust’ set shooting

Alec Baldwin has filed a civil lawsuit for malicious prosecution and civil rights violations related to the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust.”

Baldwin claims defamation and alleges that prosecutors and investigators mishandled evidence in their pursuit of the case.

The lawsuit names several defendants, including special prosecutor Kari Morrissey, Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, and other investigators.

Baldwin argues that he was unfairly scapegoated and targeted for political or professional gain.

Hutchins was killed during a rehearsal in October 2021 when Baldwin’s pistol discharged, and Baldwin has stated he didn’t pull the trigger.

The case was complicated by allegations of mishandled evidence, which Baldwin’s legal team claims was deliberately ignored, the Associated Press has reported.
