Podcast Episode 2 - Paul Fix and Lauren Fix discuss the Trump administration promise to revoke the Biden-Harris administration mandate that put a ban on sales of new gas cars for California and nearly a dozen other states. The removal of the $7500 tax credit will also positively impact the auto industry and help consumers. We discuss the impact and what to look for as the changes unfold.

California’s Advanced Clean Cars II (ACCII) regulation is set to phase in over model years 2026 to 2035 across California and 11 other states. By 2035, ACCII will require 100% of new vehicle sales to be “zero emission.” No gas, diesel or traditional hybrid passenger cars and trucks meet the definition of “zero emission,” and only a small percentage (a maximum of 20%) of plug-in hybrid cars and trucks will be able to be sold.  

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) vehicle emissions standards, finalized last spring, cover model year 2027-2032 passenger vehicles. The policy establishes average tailpipe emissions standards for cars and trucks that are so low, by 2032 none of today’s gas cars, trucks or traditional hybrids would be able to meet the standards on their own. Functionally, the policy will force automakers to stop manufacturing most new gas cars in a matter of years.
