He prayed for protection and sought to humble himself by sending gifts ahead—a substantial number of livestock—hoping to soften Esau’s heart. That night, Jacob experienced a mysterious struggle with a figure who blessed him and changed his name to Israel, signifying that he had striven with God and with men and prevailed. This encounter left Jacob with a lasting injury, a reminder of his transformation.

Genesis Chapter 33

As dawn broke, Jacob lifted his eyes and saw Esau approaching with four hundred men, stirring both anxiety and anticipation within him. Taking a cautious approach, he organized his family strategically for the meeting. As they came closer, Jacob bowed down, demonstrating humility and respect. To his astonishment, Esau welcomed him with open arms, embracing Jacob and overcoming the animosity of their past. They exchanged pleasantries, and Jacob introduced his family, expressing his gratitude for Esau’s forgiveness. The brothers reconciled, and Esau insisted that Jacob accept the gifts he had brought. Ultimately, they parted ways amicably, each returning to their separate lives with a newfound peace.
