THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW Part 86: Paradise and Hell

The Bible is clear that there is life after death. Those who died prior to Jesus’ resurrection were taken to paradise or hell. There are no dead humans, only dead bodies.

This is why Jesus told the malefactor on the cross that He was going to paradise after He died. It was an enjoyable place where people waited for the Messiah to be incarnated and perform His redemptive work. People were constantly arriving from the physical realm after their bodies died.

One day a voice announced, “The Messiah is here!” A roar filled paradise and changed into songs of praise as the crowd realized the dream had finally been fulfilled – the Redeemer was standing among them and it was none other than the Son of God! Jesus told the inhabitants of Paradise that they would soon leave for heaven.

Then He crossed over the chasm to hell and announced to its miserable inhabitants that the redemption was complete, but none of them would benefit from it.
