Faith, Revelation, and the Manifestation of Christ
Welcome to today’s episode, where we delve into the themes of faith, revelation, and the manifestation of Christ, especially as they relate to the readings for January 11th and the ongoing celebration of the Epiphany season. Together, we’ll reflect on the words of St. Augustine and St. John Chrysostom, and how Scripture calls us to a deeper understanding of Christ’s presence in our lives.
Part 1: Faith—Believing and Seeing
St. Augustine of Hippo teaches us:
"Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe."
This profound insight aligns beautifully with the spirit of the Epiphany, which celebrates Christ as the revelation of God’s promise to the world. The Magi believed in the light of the star before they saw the Christ Child. Similarly, we are called to trust in the promises of God, even when we do not yet see their fulfillment.
In the first reading from 1 John 5:14-21, St. John writes:
"We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know Him who is true."
Faith is the bridge between knowing and understanding. It allows us to grasp eternal truths even as we journey in this life. When we hold fast to the faith, we not only believe in Christ but also experience Him as our eternal life and true God.

Part 2: The Word of God as Divine Revelation
St. John Chrysostom reminds us of the sacred nature of the Gospel:
"When the Gospel is read in church, it is not only Christ who speaks but also God Himself."
This truth invites us to approach Scripture with reverence, recognizing it as the living voice of God. The Gospel for January 11th, John 3:22-30, recounts the humility of St. John the Baptist, who proclaims:
"He must increase, but I must decrease."
In this moment, John not only acknowledges Christ’s divine mission but also models how we, too, should respond to God’s revelation with humility and joy. When we hear the Gospel proclaimed, we encounter the Bridegroom Himself, who calls us into a deeper relationship with Him.
John’s disciples express concern that others are going to Jesus for baptism, yet John rejoices in this, understanding that all blessings come from heaven. His joy is a testament to his faith in God’s plan, even when it requires letting go of his own prominence.

Part 3: Confidence in Prayer and Fidelity to God’s Will
The first reading also emphasizes the power of prayer:
"We have this confidence in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us."
True prayer aligns our desires with God’s will, allowing us to participate in His divine plan. This confidence is not a presumption but a trust born of faith. It is in this trust that we can confront even the darkness of sin and the challenges of the world, knowing that Christ has already triumphed.
St. John also warns us:
"Little children, keep yourselves from idols."
In our modern age, idols may not take the form of golden statues, but they often manifest as worldly attachments, self-reliance, or a refusal to trust in God’s providence. Faith requires us to reject these false securities and place our confidence entirely in Christ.

Conclusion: Living the Manifestation of Christ
As we continue through the Epiphany season, let us reflect on how Christ is revealed in our lives. Are we, like the Magi, seeking Him with faith? Are we, like John the Baptist, pointing others to Him and rejoicing in His presence? And are we, like the disciples, confident in prayer and faithful to His Word?
Faith is both a gift and a journey. It calls us to believe in the unseen and trust that we will one day see the fullness of God’s glory. In the words of St. Augustine, may we persevere in faith, that we may one day receive its ultimate reward: seeing what we believe.

Conclusion Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
You have revealed Your Son as the light of the world and the fulfillment of Your promises. Strengthen our faith, that we may always trust in Your Word and live in the joy of Your presence.
Grant us the humility of St. John the Baptist, the trust of the Magi, and the confidence of the disciples. May we always decrease so that Christ may increase in us. Keep us faithful to Your will, and guide us away from the idols of this world into the embrace of Your eternal love.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Thank you for joining us today. May your faith be strengthened, and may Christ be ever more present in your life. Until next time, may God bless you and keep you.
