We embarked on a 9 day,1800 nm trek across the eastern third of the United States in our 1979 Piper Cherokee Six private airplane. This is Epic Trek 2024!

EP-1 | Day 1 – Warsaw to Millington (Memphis), TN to attend the largest PA-32 fly-in weekend east of the Mississippi. Beautiful day to fly! We flew over 3 states at the same time, got told to slow down by ATC to avoid other PA-32's in the area, and finally arrived to be greeted by a wonderful host of volunteers.

After taking 2023 off, the fly-in was back at our new home and welcoming partner, the Millington, Tennessee Airport KNQA. The former Naval Air Station was handed over to the City of Millington as part of the Base Closure & Realignment in the late 1990’s. Since then the field is thriving with a robust flight school, large aircraft maintenance facilities, numerous private GA hangers, and an outstanding FBO.

The airport and the event planners did an amazing job! Shout out to Lee Mills who led the efforts. Over 65 airplanes registered, sadly, only about 40 actually made it. Hurricane Helene happened just 15 day prior. Our thoughts were with those pilots & families all weekend long. Most pilots arrived Friday, but the festivities really kicked off Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Memphis 99’s benefiting the Amelia Earhart Scholarship.

The rest of the day was filled with great talks by several experienced PA-32 pilots and A&P’s including that FAA guy and fellow Cherokee driver - Phil Dixon! Every pilot walked away from those talks armed with knowledge about the Airframe & Powerplant, online weather tools, and operating everything safely.

Jay Selman was doing air-to-air photoshoots all weekend long and caught some amazing shots of all forms of the PA-32. Saturday concluded with an amazing Bar-B-Que, good conversations about flying, and making new friends!

Thanks to the sponsors & volunteers for an amazing weekend. Hope to see you all in 2025!
