‘A distortion of our legal system’: Alan Dershowitz reacts to Trump hush money trial sentencing

Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz says in his 62-years of practicing law, he’s never heard a judge announce a defendant’s sentence in advance like New York Judge Juan Merchan did with President-elect Donald Trump’s hush money trial. “This was not a legitimate case. There is no crime. You can’t be a convicted felon when you haven’t been charged with a felony,” he says. “He was charged with a misdemeanor that expired under the statute of limitations that they magically resurrected and tried to turn into a felony.”
