Officially known as Soi Sukhumvit 55, Thong Lo (Thai: ทองหล่อ, RTGS: Thong Lo, pronounced [tʰȔ̄ːϋ lƔƀː]; also spelled Thong Lor) is a road and neighborhood in Bangkok, Thailand's Watthana District. The literal translation of Thong Lo is "molten gold." The name is derived from that of Thonglo Khamhiran, a naval officer who was a part of the Khana Ratsadon (People's Party), a revolutionary organization founded in 1932. He owned homes and land nearby. The region along Sukhumvit Road to the Bang Na District was semi-rural and suburban Bangkok prior to World War II. The navy occupied a large portion of the region.
Thong Lo travels north along Sukhumvit Road to Phetchaburi Road from the Thong Lo BTS Station. Initially containing dowdy shops and auto dealerships.
