Turn Me On Trailer #1 (2025)
US Release Date: January 10, 2025
Starring: Bel Powley, Justin H. Min, Nick Robinson
Director: Michael Tyburski
Synopsis: Under the control of a pill that eradicates human emotion, a young couple skip doses and discover new feelings, but realize that comes with emotional baggage to deal with.
"With my help you'll achieve greatness." Marvel has revealed an official trailer for their next new animated Spidey series called Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man arriving for streaming this January on Disney+. "Every neighborhood needs a hero." Parker! This is a brand new take on a Spider-Man animated cartoon for kids created by animation writer Jeff Trammell. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (so YFNSM for short?) follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming a hero, with a journey unlike we've seen and a style that celebrates the character's early comic book roots. It's set in an alternate timeline where Norman Osborn becomes Parker's mentor instead of Tony Stark. The voice cast includes Hudson Thames as Peter, Colman Domingo as Osborn, Eugene Byrd, Grace Song, Zeno Robinson, Hugh Dancy as Octavius, and Charlie Cox as Daredevil. They've modernized it and Spidey also has his own livestream, to connect with the app-addicted youth nowadays. It seems like a fun time - though I still prefer Morales' Spider-Verse.

A new year means fresh movies on Netflix, which always shakes up the top 10 as viewers rush to check out the latest releases. After dominating the charts for weeks, the holiday thriller “Carry-On” has just been bumped from the top 10, making room for some other gems to take the spotlight on the streaming service.
But not every movie in the rankings is worth your time. That’s why we’ve chosen the top three must-watch movies currently in Netflix's top 10. These picks include an underrated action-adventure starring Chris Hemsworth, a “Mad Max” prequel (also featuring Hemsworth) that didn’t get enough love at the box office and a classic buddy cop comedy you won’t want to miss.
This article is based on the Netflix top 10 movies chart as of 9 a.m. ET on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025.

‘In the Heart of the Sea’

Watch On
I recently rewatched “In the Heart of the Sea” to jog my memory, and I can confidently say it’s an underrated movie. This action-packed adventure claimed the No. 1 spot on Netflix earlier this week (though it’s since been knocked off), and I’m thrilled to see it gaining some well-deserved recognition. It’s a harrowing sea experience with stunning cinematography and a gripping story.
“In the Heart of the Sea” recounts the harrowing journey of the whaling ship Essex in 1820. Led by Captain George Pollard Jr. (Benjamin Walker) and first mate Owen Chase (Chris Hemsworth), the crew sets sail from Nantucket in search of whale oil, a valuable commodity at the time. However, their expedition takes a catastrophic turn when they encounter a massive sperm whale with an almost human-like intelligence and an apparent vendetta. The whale attacks the ship, leaving the crew stranded thousands of miles from land in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’

You’d expect a prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Road” to crush it at the box office, but that wasn’t the case for “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” Despite being a badass action flick with plenty of positive reviews, it underperformed during its 2024 release. Its lackluster marketing and the challenges of being labeled a “prequel” likely played a big role in its disappointing turnout. I personally loved this movie, and I’m glad to see it find a new audience on Netflix.

“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” delves into the origin story of Imperator Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy). The narrative follows young Furiosa, who is abducted from the Green Place of Many Mothers by a biker horde led by the warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth). She is subsequently sold to Immortan Joe, under whose command she trains as a soldier and mechanic, all while plotting her revenge against Dementus for her mother's death. This prequel shows Furiosa's transformation from a captive to a formidable warrior.

‘Despicable Me’

Watch On
Sometimes all you need is a fun animated movie to watch one evening. Thankfully Netflix is home to several popular animations, including “Despicable Me.” However, this popular flick is sadly leaving the platform at the end of the month (January 31), so now’s your chance to stream it. Plus, “Despicable Me 2” has just taken the No.1 spot on Netflix, so you can watch both this weekend.
“Despicable Me” tells the story of Gru, a supervillain with grand ambitions to become the greatest villain of all time. Gru's latest evil plan involves stealing the moon with the help of his army of small, yellow, mischievous Minions and his high-tech gadgets. Gru's life takes an unexpected turn when he adopts three orphaned girls — Margo, Edith, and Agnes — as part of his plan to infiltrate a rival villain's base. While initially using them as pawns, Gru gradually develops a genuine bond with the girls.

"We have to tell the others..." Signature Entertainment in the UK has unveiled an official trailer for an indie sci-fi romantic thriller called Turn Me On, set in an emotionless dystopian future. This just premiered at the San Sebastian Film Festival and is already set for a UK debut next week on VOD, while still playing at film festivals without any US release date set yet. In a lifeless world, one couple will find their spark again in this dystopian romcom. In a world where the inconvenience of human emotion has been eradicated by a government-imposed daily vitamin, one young couple skips their dose and discovers love, joy, sex and all the baggage that comes with it. A young couple (named Joy and William) discover many new feelings, but realize they come with more challenges as well. Starring Bel Powley, Nick Robinson, Justin H. Min, Griffin Newman, Nesta Cooper, Patti Harrison, and D'Arcy Carden. This is the same concept as the sci-fi romance film Equals (2015) with Kristen Stewart, literally the exact same thing, which is a bit strange to see it all over again. But why not? I guess people still can't handle their emotions. I do really like this cast.
Here's the official UK trailer (+ poster) for Michael Tyburski's film Turn Me On, direct from YouTube:

Turn Me On Poster
"Are you content?" What if you could take a pill that could eradicate all human emotion and bring peace to you and those around you? The only sacrifice is... yourself. "Feel something. Change everything." One young woman named Joy (Bel Powley) living in a dystopian future finds herself forced to stop taking her meds which results in a brand-new world laid out before her, one with happiness, sadness, anger and joy. Experiencing sex, love and contentment for the first time, they grapple with these new emotions, and all of the baggage that comes along with it... Turn Me On is directed by American indie filmmaker Michael Tyburski, making his second feature film after directing The Sound of Silence previously, plus a few other short films. The screenplay is written by Angela Bourassa (If You Were the Last). Produced by Sean Bradley, Toby Nalbandian, Zareh Nalbandian, Gregory Schmidt. This initially premiered at the 2024 San Sebastian Film Festival this fall. Signature Ent. will debut Tyburski's Turn Me On direct-to-VOD in the UK starting November 4th, 2024 this fall. No US release has been set yet - stay tuned for updates. Anyone interested?
There have been a number of different kinds of movie time machines — from phone booths, to ancient Japanese scepters, to a cocaine trafficker’s wacky sports car. But it wasn’t until 2010 that a character broke the time barrier using a magical jacuzzi.
Hot Tub Time Machine was a goofy, but mostly enjoyable comedy that found John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke traveling back in time to the 1980s. At least it nailed the complex nature of meddling with the timeline in a way that few other time-travel films do.
Because it was a modest success, Hot Tub Time Machine spawned a sequel. And it’s not great. In fact, it’s quite bad. Even John Cusack didn’t want to return for Hot Tub Time Machine 2, and that guy once made a movie in which cell phone signals turn people into telepathic zombies.

But Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is worth re-examining, not for its humor, but for its futurism. That’s because a not insignificant portion of it is set in the very year that we just entered: 2025.
The movie finds the gang (minus Cusack’s character) traveling through time to solve a murder. The inciting incident of the story is Rob Corddry being fatally shot in the dick. And it’s only downhill from there.
Once they stumble into the future, they encounter a world filled with translucent holo-TVs, where Neil Patrick Harris is the President, and Jessica Williams has taken over hosting The Daily Show. Of course, one could argue that Williams starring in a TV show with Harrison Ford that’s made by a computer company, while The Daily Show is hosted by an increasingly haggard Jon Stewart, sounds more like a parody.
The characters do remark that not that much has changed in the world of 2025 — except for the dogs riding hoverboards. Meanwhile, self-driving cars are very much a thing, but they’re intelligent and sometimes suffer from road rage. Corddry’s character Lou even gets in a fight with one, which is able to detect that he has a “low sperm count.”
In the real 2025, self-driving cars do exist, and while they don’t get angry at each other, there have been a number crashes. They don’t detect sperm counts, but it was reported last year that “sexual activity” is one of the data points that Nissan collects about drivers, so Hot Tub Time Machine 2 wasn’t too far off.
And the TV landscape of “2025” includes a terrible reality show in which Christian Slater forces celebrities to have VR gay sex, which is probably why GLAAD called out Hot Tub Time Machine 2 for its gay panic and “significant defamatory content” at the time.
Incidentally, according to IMDb, the movie was originally set in 2024, because it took place 10 years in the future and was supposed to come out in 2014, not 2015. And so, they had to dub over all references to 2014 and 2024 to accommodate the move.
If that wasn’t bad enough, the rescheduling was reportedly because the studio didn’t want to compete with Seth Rogen’s The Interview, but it famously ended up being pulled from theaters following threats by the North Korean government.
You blew it, Hot Tub Time Machine 2. In so many ways.

Handlung
Produktion
Filmstab
Regisseur Michael Tyburski
Besetzung
Der US-Amerikaner Nick Robinson und die Britin Bel Powley spielen in den Hauptrollen William und Joy, die auf die Einnahme der „Pille“ verzichten.[2] Justin H. Min, zuletzt zu sehen in den Filmen After Yang, Shortcomings, The Greatest Hits und Detained, spielt Christopher. Weitere Rollen wurden mit den Kanadiern Luke Kirby und Nesta Cooper, den US-Amerikanern D’Arcy Carden und Griffin Newman und Patti Harrison besetzt.
Dreharbeiten
Die Filmmusik komponierte Nate Heller, zu dessen bekanntesten früheren Arbeiten The Diary of a Teenage Girl und Can You Ever Forgive Me? seiner Schwester Marielle Heller gehören.[4]
