The Speaker of the California Assembly - Robert Rivas (D) - has nothing coherent to say when asked why they're doing a special legislative session to prepare to battle Trump in the courts while fires rage on.

REPORTER: Is now the right time?

RIVAS: "Um, so, I'm, you know, I'm here to address this, this, uh, these, these, these, these wild fires. Uh, this is a historic, a historic wildfire... this is a historic event. These wildfires, as I mentioned, are gonna be, quite possibly some of the worst wildfires and disasters in state and national history."

REPORTER: People are trying to figure everything out, your chamber is focused on Trump?

RIVAS: "So, certainly, our focus right now as speaker - our colleagues and I - we are acting with great urgency to make sure we are providing much-needed relief." https://x.com/EricLDaugh/status/1877702655386022231
