Julia Garner has addressed her role as the Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four: First Steps and whether her MCU debut will be live-action or CGI-rendered. Garner is set to appear in Fantastic Four: First Steps as Shalla-Bal, a female iteration of the iconic Silver Surfer and love interest of Norrin Radd, the more commonly known Silver Surfer, in Marvel Comics. The specifics of Shalla-Bal's role in Fantastic Four: First Steps are still forthcoming beyond her being Galactus' herald, with not so much as a glimpse of Shalla-Bal emerging from the set of Fantastic Four: First Steps so far.

Absent any sneak peeks, Garner herself has described Shalla-Bal's costume while talking to ScreenRant about Wolf Man, stating "It's shiny." There is a reason why some might expect Garner's character to be rendered with practical effects, after all, as set photos seemingly reveal that they will be used for Ebon Moss-Bachrach's The Thing. Garner remains coy about the finer details of what can be expected of Shalla-Bal's appearance on-screen, however, suggesting that fans will have to "Wait and see."
