Episode 2849: The Majesty of Christ - Nightly Episode
“O my God, at the end of this day I thank You most heartily for all the graces I have received from You. I am sorry that I have not made better use of them. I am sorry for all the sins I have committed against You. Forgive me, O my God, and graciously protect me this night. Blessed Virgin Mary, my dear heavenly mother, take me under your protection. St. Joseph, my dear Guardian Angel, and all you saints of God, pray for me. Sweet Jesus, have pity on all poor sinners, and save them from hell. Have mercy on the suffering souls in purgatory. Amen.”
The Majesty of Christ and the All-Seeing Presence of God
Welcome to our podcast, where we explore the richness of traditional Catholic spirituality and its timeless wisdom for our modern lives. Today, we delve into two profound truths of our faith: the majesty of Jesus Christ and the all-seeing, all-knowing presence of God.
We’ll meditate on Philippians 2:10-11 and a striking reflection from St. John Henry Newman. These passages challenge us to deepen our reverence for Christ and remind us of the reality of God's ever-present gaze.
Part 1: At the Name of Jesus – The Majesty of Christ
Let’s begin with the words of St. Paul from Philippians 2:10-11:
"At the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
These verses are a cornerstone of our faith, capturing the cosmic authority of Jesus Christ. Every knee will bend angels in heaven, humans on earth, and even demons under the earth all will recognize His kingship.
As traditional Catholics, this passage calls us to restore a deep sense of reverence in our personal lives and within the Church. This includes:
Bowing at the name of Jesus: A gesture of humility and recognition of His Lordship.
Using His name with reverence: Avoiding casual or irreverent use of His holy name, for it is sacred.
Kneeling in prayer: Our physical posture reflects our inner disposition of worship and submission to Christ.
Consider the liturgical practices of the Traditional Latin Mass. In this sacred liturgy, we see how every detail points to the majesty of Christ. The priest genuflects repeatedly, and the faithful kneel during the consecration. These acts are not mere ritual; they are profound acts of faith that mirror the heavenly worship described by St. Paul.
The name of Jesus is powerful. It heals, restores, and saves. When we invoke His name with faith, we align ourselves with His divine will and glorify the Father.
Part 2: The All-Seeing Presence of God – Reflection from St. John Henry Newman
Now, let’s reflect on the words of St. John Henry Newman:
"You are the all-seeing, all-knowing God. Your eyes, O Lord, are in every place. You are a real spectator of everything that takes place anywhere. You are ever with me. You are present and conscious of all I think, say, or do you, God, who have seen me."
Newman’s words are both comforting and sobering. God’s omnipresence means we are never alone. In moments of trial, His presence strengthens us. In moments of joy, He shares our delight. But His gaze is also a reminder that every thought, word, and deed is seen and recorded.
This brings us to a key point of Catholic spirituality: the examination of conscience.
Newman writes: "You have a book; you enter in it every day of my life. I forget: you do not forget." This truth reminds us of the Last Judgment, where every moment of our lives will be laid bare.
Psalm 139:7 echoes this reality: "Whither shall I go from your spirit?" There is no place where God is not present.
Living with the awareness of God’s gaze leads us to holiness. We begin to act not out of fear, but out of love and a desire to please Him. This mindfulness transforms our daily actions, making even the smallest tasks offerings to God.
As traditional Catholics, we also understand the importance of frequent confession. The sacrament allows us to unburden our sins, receive God’s mercy, and align our lives with His divine will.
Part 3: Practical Applications – Living in Reverence and Awareness
How can we integrate these truths into our daily lives?
Reverence for Christ:
Make the Sign of the Cross reverently and prayerfully.
Bow or genuflect at the name of Jesus, even when it’s mentioned casually in conversation or readings.
Spend time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, where Christ’s real presence calls us to worship.
Mindfulness of God’s Presence:
Begin each day with a Morning Offering, consciously placing your thoughts, words, and actions under God’s gaze.
Practice the examination of conscience at night, reflecting on how you’ve responded to God’s love throughout the day.
Remember Psalm 139:7-10 when feeling isolated or discouraged: "If I ascend to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there."
Frequent the Sacraments:
Regular confession ensures we remain in a state of grace and are prepared to meet God.
The Holy Eucharist is our strength and the foretaste of eternal life, where we will one day kneel before Jesus in glory.
Conclusion Prayer
Let us close with a prayer that ties together these reflections:
Heavenly Father,
You are the all-seeing, all-knowing God. You are with us in every moment, guiding us with Your love and mercy. We thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, whose name is above every name and whose majesty we adore.
Help us to live with reverence for His holy name and with constant awareness of Your presence. May our lives glorify You in all we think, say, and do.
Teach us to embrace humility, to seek Your mercy through confession, and to align our hearts with Your divine will. Let us never forget that we are always in Your loving hands.
Through the intercession of St. John Henry Newman and all the saints, may we grow in holiness and one day bow before You in eternal adoration.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
