Apocalyptic scenes in Southern California as wildfires burn out of control in the greater Los Angeles area. Thus far, the fires have killed at least five people and have forced evacuations for nearly 180,000 people.

At least five fires are currently burning an area that is estimated to be more than 45 square miles, sparked by dry conditions and powerful Santa Ana winds.

The Palisades Fire has burned through more than 17,234 acres and nearly 27 square miles. As of this afternoon, the fires have destroyed 1,000 structures and is entirely uncontained, making it the most destructive wildfire in Los Angeles history.
