Personally, when I first heard Japanese and Chinese speak, their languages had the intonations of the Fon Language of southern Dahomey (now called the Republic of Benin). Also, the Ashanti, and indeed all those who belong to the Akan communities, name their kids according to the day of the week they were born, but their neighbors, the Ga-Adangme have an altogether different naming system. As a personal experience, I know that some of the clans of the Ga who now spread from Accra to the southern part of the above-mentioned republic of Benin name their firstborn girl "Ayele". On this very YouTube channel, there is a female broadcaster from Ethiopia going by the same name of "Ayele" as her middle name. Talk about the distance: From Ghana, in West Africa to Ethiopia! There is a lot that Africans and people of African descent have to learn about themselves. Thank you for the research!

I am Chinese, and I believe that all people are the same. Seventy years ago, China was as poor as Africa, but today China has achieved significant development. Why is Africa still poor? The difference lies in the fact that China has freed itself from the control and exploitation of Western colonizers, whereas Africa is still being exploited. We all know that the Chinese are the neo-colonialists of Africa. They've plundered the continent of its natural resources, tossing aside any concern for human rights and doing deals with some of the world's most unsavoury regimes. The relentless pursuit of growth is China's only spur.

But is this picture really fair? In Angola, for example, China's low-interest loans have been tied to a scheme that has ensured that roads, schools and other infrastructure has been built. China has an impressive track record of lifting its own millions out of poverty and can do the same for Africa. And is the West's record in Africa as glowing as we like to think? After decades of pouring aid into Africa, how much have we actually achieved in terms of reducing poverty, corruption and war? So which way should Africa look for salvation -- to the West, to China, or perhaps to its own people? Come to the debate and decide for yourself.
