I have my ticket. I did not pick it.
The station master simply handed it to me.
A sticky wicket – I could not lick it –
which is why I’m on this final journey.

I was never Cain so I’m on this train.
I never waste my time with folk who stay asleep.
I was never Abel. I’m too unstable.
I don’t concern myself with people who are sheep.

Semaphore signals drop before me
so the train can’t slow down.
Traffic and people stop before me
so the train won’t slow down,
under the tunnel, over the ridge,
toward my destination;
over the viaduct, under the bridge,
toward my final station.
