Meta-CEO Mark Zuckerberg . six-point plan
The video shows Zuckerberg sitting in a wood-paneled room vaguely reminiscent of a sauna, saying various things about speech and freedom into the camera. Zuckerberg announces that "it's time to go back to our roots on free speech on Facebook and Instagram," and more than once he refers to the censoring policies of "governments and traditional media." He says that "the recent election... feels like a cultural turning point to re-prioritize speech," and he promises to "focus on... restoring free speech on our platforms."
He has a six-point plan for doing so:
1) Facebook and Instagram will phase out their fact-checkers, starting in the United States. They will replace these noble arbiters of truth "with community graders similar to X." This is necessary because "the fact-checkers were simply too politically biased and destroyed more trust than they created, especially in the U.S." (In perhaps the most amusing and satisfying development ever, fact-checkers are currently fact-checking Zuckerberg's statements and declaring them false.)
2) Facebook and Instagram will "make it easier... to change content policies and get rid of a bunch of criticisms on issues like immigration and gender that simply have no bearing on mainstream discourse." Inclusivity "has gone too far," Zuckerberg says.
3) Content filters on Facebook and Instagram will be recalibrated to target "illegal and serious violations"; detecting "less severe violations" will depend on user reports. "The problem," Zuckerberg says, "is that the filters make mistakes and remove a lot of content they shouldn't."
4) Zuckerberg will "bring back civic content," by which he means posts on political issues. He asks us to believe that "for a while the community was asking to see less politics because it was stressing people out," but argues that "we're in a new era" where political content is no longer stressful for some mysterious reason: "So we're going to start gradually bringing that back to Facebook, Instagram, and Threads."
Zuckerberg will instruct his "trust and safety and content moderation teams" to move from California to Texas.
Last but not least, Zuckerberg and his fellow Zuckerbergs at Facegram will "work with President Trump to push back on governments around the world that are going after American companies and pushing to censor more."
