Boom Town (1940)

Directed by Jack Conway. Starring Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy as Wildcatters "Big John" McMasters and "Square John" Sand, the film follows their rise from struggling prospectors to oil tycoons, as well as the tensions that arise over business and love. Claudette Colbert and Hedy Lamarr co-star as the women who complicate their lives. Filled with larger-than-life characters, dramatic twists, and striking depictions of the oil boom, the film captures the spirit of risk and reward in early 20th-century America.
