The trailer for Good Cop/Bad Cop previews Leighton Meester's return to The CW in a police show that features a cameo from Adam Brody. Meester is well-known for her fan-favorite role as Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl, one of the CW's cornerstone series. The actor is returning to the network with Good Cop/Bad Cop, which follows a sibling detective duo in a small Pacific Northwest police force who work under the police chief who is also their father. The procedural is written and executive produced by John Quaintance.

The trailer for Good Cop/Bad Cop has been released ahead of the show's debut on The CW Wednesday, February 19 at 9 PM ET. The series, which will also be available on the Roku streaming service, draws a lot from the core family dynamic. That includes Lou (Meester) who is frustrated at having to work with her brash younger brother Henry (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina alum Luke Cook). But despite the tension, police chief Big Hank (Billions actor Clancy Brown) is adamant that they work together. Check out the trailer below:

What Happens In The Good Cop/Bad Cop Trailer
Brody Wants To Know If Meester's Character Is Married

The trailer begins with Lou insisting there's a crime problem. Hank pushes back, saying there isn't. Lou is clearly frustrated, though. She's not impressed with the people she works with. It's shown that they are indeed the bumbling sort. She asks for a partner, at least, although she immediately regrets her request when she realizes she'll be teaming up with her brother.

The cast of Good Cop/Bad Cop also includes Devon Terrell, Grace Chow, Blazey Best, Philippa Northeast, William McKenna, Shamita Siva, and Scott Lee.

Henry is shown to be abrasive, with lacking social skills. It's clear that the two siblings don't get along. As the trailer progresses, Lou and Henry appear to be working on a case. They're stopped by Nobody Wants This star Adam Brody, who has been married to Meester since 2014. Brody's character is a bit of a cowboy and he asks whether Lou and Henry are married. The siblings react to this, of course, with disgust.

Brody and Meester have acted together in the past, including in the sitcom Single Parents, and the movies Life Partners, The Oranges, and River Wild.

Good Cop/Bad Cop hails from Jeff Wachtel’s Future Shack Entertainment and Australian producer Jungle Entertainment in association with ITV Studios. It's executive produced by Wachtel, Trent O’Donnell, and Chloe Rickard. The project is part of the revamped CW's focus on international productions, though it also represents Meester's long-awaited return to a leading TV role.

Our Take On Good Cop/Bad Cop
It's Good To See Meester Back

Although she's popped up in varied TV and film roles since Gossip Girl ended, Meester hasn't had a major TV role since the end of her ABC comedy Single Parents. That looks to change in the coming year, as she'll be part of The Buccaneers season 2 in an undisclosed but significant role. She's also set to appear in the pilot episode of the untitled HBO comedy pilot from Bottoms star Rachel Sennott. Timed with Good Cop/Bad Cop, viewers could be seeing a lot more of a breakout teen drama star.

Leighton Meester and Adam Brody are one of those Hollywood couples we can all get behind. They're sweet, they're low-key, and to a certain group of millennial women, they represent the gold-star crossover of Gossip Girl and The O.C.

We never thought Blair Waldorf and Seth Cohen would cross paths in real life, let alone tie the knot. But these two somehow made it happen and for that, we thank them.

And now, it's been revealed Brody will feature in a cameo role in Meester's highly-anticipated new comedy, the Stan Original Series Good Cop/Bad Cop.

Filmed in Australia — Yes! They were here, with all of us and the kangaroos! — the new Stan Original Series follows Lou (Leighton Meester), a rising detective in a small Pacific Northwest police force. Wanting backup to take her detective work to new heights, she's given a partner: her idiot brother Henry (Luke Cook).

Leighton Meester is back at The CW, but not as Blair Waldorf, the Gossip Girl character viewers knew her for. She plays Lou, a detective in a small town's police force whose job is made harder by various shortcomings in the force and the people in her life. In Good Cop/Bad Cop, Meester is joined by Luke Cook (Chilling Adventure of Sabrina) and Clancy Brown (Dexter: New Blood), who play her brother Henry and father Big Hank, respectively. It's a family affair where Henry and Lou work together under their father, the police chief. The series, whose official description you can read below, premieres on February 18 on The CW. The network released a trailer for the show that previews Lou's constant battles with ineptness in the police force while working with her no-nonsense brother.

Good Cop/Bad Cop is a one-hour procedural dramedy centered around Lou and Henry an odd couple sister and brother detective team in a small Pacific Northwest police force. They must contend with colorful residents, a serious lack of resources, and their very complicated dynamic with each other and with their police chief, Big Hank — who happens to be their father.

There's a New Detective Duo in Town in 'Good Cop/Bad Cop.'

The trailer above introduces Meester as Lou. She is a fairly competent cop, but the problems in the small town's police force she works for make the job harder. Her boss and father seems unbothered by a string of crimes that have been plaguing the town, while her coworkers are not the best people to work with. The police force is so underfunded they run out of crime scene tape. Big Hank agrees to one of Lou's demands and gives her a partner, one she wishes she never asked for. Henry, her little brother, joins the team as her partner. The atypical duo must work together to ensure justice is served swiftly — if they can get through the day.

Good Cop/Bad Cop is another co-production between The CW and other partners, in this case Roku and Australian streaming service Stan. It's a new model the network has adopted after the bloodbath of 2023 that saw most of their scripted shows canceled. Filming was done in Queensland, Australia, last year. Other CW co-productions include Vanessa Morgan-led Wild Cards and Sophie Turner-led Joan. Good Cop/Bad Cop is written and executive produced by John Quaintance, with Jeff Wachtel, Trent O’Donnell, and Chloe Rickard serving as executive producers. Trent O’Donnell also serves as director, with Phil Lloyd as co-executive producer.

Tune in to The CW on Wednesday, February 19, to catch the series premiere of Good Cop/Bad Cop. Watch Gossip Girl on Roku in the US.

Adam Brody is showing his range, transforming from Hot Rabbi to Hot Cowboy in wife Leighton Meester‘s upcoming procedural Good Cop/Bad Cop.

The CW released the official trailer on Tuesday, January 7, for the series, which premieres February 19, and Brody, 45, made a blink-and-you’ll-miss it cameo as a cowboy who mistakes Meester’s character, Lou, and her brother Henry (Luke Cook), for a couple.

Good Cop/Bad Cop follows a sibling detective team as they deal with a slew of colorful residents, a serious lack of resources, their complex relationship and a very complicated dynamic with their police chief (and father) played by Clancy Brown.

This isn’t the first time Meester, 38, and Brody have shared the screen after reconnecting on the set of The Oranges. Since taking their relationship public, they have also appeared together on Single Parents and River Wild.

“My wife and I actually got married very fast after we started dating. That’s how sort of easy a decision it was for me and us,” Brody said on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show during a March 2023 interview. “I was never scared of the idea of marriage or kids. It always seemed like a route I would go [down] eventually, and I was excited to when it came together [and] when I met the right person.”

Brody later gushed about how he knew he was interested in Meester instantly, despite her needing a few “years” to see him in the same light.

“She remained elusive to me for so long, you know, and aloof,” he explained on an April 2023 episode of Stitcher Studios’ “Popcrushed” podcast. “I couldn’t get a total read because even though she professe[d] to have been interested in me and all those things — not only did she not pursue that, I mean, she was perfectly willing to let that never happen.”
Spotted: Leighton Meester back on the network that made her a household name in TVLine’s exclusive trailer for the new CW procedural dramedy Good Cop/Bad Cop (premiering Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 9/8c).

The former Gossip Girl star headlines the show as Lou, a beleaguered detective who is forced to partner up on the job with her socially-challenged sibling Henry (played by Chilling Adventures of Sabrina‘s Luke Cook). As “an odd couple sister and brother detective team in a small Pacific Northwest police force,” the duo “must contend with colorful residents, a serious lack of resources, and their very complicated dynamic with each other and with their police chief, Big Hank (Dexter: New Blood’s Clancy Brown) — who happens to be their father,” reads the official synopsis.

To make the situation even more uncomfortable, Meester’s real-life husband Adam Brody (aka Nobody Wants This‘ Hot Rabbi) makes a cameo in the trailer when his character mistakes Lou and Henry for a married couple, much to their horror.

The eight-episode Good Cop/Bad Cop is created by John Quaintance (Reboot, Will & Grace), with Jeff Wachtel (Murder in a Small Town), director Trent O’Donnell (Ghosts) and Chloe Rickard (No Activity) serving as executive producers. The series is a co-production between The CW, The Roku Channel, Australia’s Stan and ITV Studios.

In addition to Good Cop/Bad Cop, Meester also has Apple TV+’s The Buccaneers on the docket, with the actress joining the series in an undisclosed role for Season 2.

Leighton Marissa Meester (/ˈleɪtən/ LAY-tən;[1] born April 9, 1986)[2] is an American actress and singer. She is known for her starring role as Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl, which ran from 2007 to 2012. She has also appeared in films such as Killer Movie (2008), Country Strong (2010), The Roommate (2011), Monte Carlo (2011), The Oranges (2011), The Judge (2014), The Weekend Away (2022), and EXmas (2023). She portrayed Angie D'Amato on the ABC sitcom Single Parents (2018–2020). Meester made her Broadway debut in Of Mice and Men (2014).

In addition to acting, Meester has ventured into music. In 2009, she was featured as a guest vocalist on the Cobra Starship single "Good Girls Go Bad", which charted in the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100. She released solo singles "Somebody to Love" (2009) and "Your Love's a Drug" (2010) on the Universal Republic label. Meester has also recorded songs for various soundtracks. Her debut studio album, Heartstrings, was independently released in 2014. She has also modeled, having been the face of the Jimmy Choo, Herbal Essences, and Vera Wang brands.

Early life
Meester was born April 9, 1986[2] in Fort Worth, Texas, to Douglas Jay Meester and Constance Lynn (née Haas).[3][4] Her father is a real estate broker; her mother is a writer.[5] She has an older brother, Douglas Logan Meester (born 1983), and a younger brother, Alexander "Lex" Meester (born 1994)[citation needed]. At the time of her birth, Meester's parents were serving time in a federal prison for their involvement in a drug ring that smuggled marijuana from Jamaica to the United States.[6] Constance was able to give birth to Leighton in a hospital and nurse her for three months in a halfway house, before returning to prison to complete her sentence.[3][4] Her paternal grandparents cared for Meester during this period. She has maintained that her parents gave her a normal upbringing and, despite their criminal past, has stated, "It made me realize that you can't judge anyone—especially your parents—for what they've done in their past, because people change."[7] She grew up in Marco Island, Florida, where she participated in productions at a local playhouse.[8] Her parents separated in 1992.[9]

When she was 11 years old, Meester and her siblings moved with their mother to New York City. She attended the Professional Children's School and began working as a model with Wilhelmina, booking a Ralph Lauren campaign shot by Bruce Weber, and working with then-photographer Sofia Coppola.[4][8] Meester also booked commercials for Tamagotchi and Clearasil, and modeled for Limited Too alongside Amanda Seyfried.[10] At age 14, she relocated to Los Angeles and attended Hollywood and Beverly Hills High Schools.[4][11] Meester then transferred to a small private school and graduated a year earlier than usual.[12]

Career

1999–2006: Career beginnings
Meester made her acting debut in 1999 as a murder victim's friend, Alyssa Turner, on an episode of Law & Order.[13] Following this, she made her film debut as Elisha Springfield in Hangman's Curse (2003), based on the bestselling book by Frank Peretti. She had a series regular role in Tarzan, which aired for only eight episodes. A recurring role in Entourage as Justine Chapin and Veronica Mars as Carrie Bishop followed in 2004 and 2005. Meester booked guest roles in the series Crossing Jordan, 8 Simple Rules, 7th Heaven and 24.[8] She was cast as series regular in Surface as Savannah Barnett.[14]

In 2006, Meester appeared in two films, Flourish and Inside. She also guest starred in an episode of Numbers and appeared in two episodes of House as Ali Johnson, a teenager who has a crush on Gregory House.[8] She then had guest roles on CSI: Miami[15] and Shark, and portrayed the female lead in the horror film Drive-Thru, for which she recorded the song "Inside the Black".[16] Meester was cast as identical twin sisters Kayla and Kelly Rhodes in the ABC crime-drama series Secrets of a Small Town,[17] but the network decided not to forward the series.[18]

2007–2013: Gossip Girl and music ventures

Meester in 2009
In 2007, Meester was cast in The CW's teen drama series Gossip Girl as Blair Waldorf, based on the book series of the same name by Cecily von Ziegesar. She first auditioned for the role of Serena van der Woodsen, but told the producers that she could better play Blair. However, it was important that Serena was blonde and Blair was brunette, so Meester dyed her hair brown for the role.[19] Her performance was the most critically acclaimed of the show, with Blair being cited as the series' breakout character. She also garnered media attention for her wardrobe on the show.[4][20] The series ended after six seasons and 120 episodes.[21] Meester later starred in the television film The Haunting of Sorority Row,[22] and had a role in the ensemble comedy-drama film Remember the Daze.[23] In 2008, she appeared in the horror-thriller film Killer Movie and reprised her role in Entourage singing with Tony Bennett in the episode.[24]

Early in 2009, Meester partnered with Reebok to model their new Top Down sneakers.[25] Apart from Gossip Girl, Meester worked with co-star Ed Westwick in a Nikon Coolpix series camera advertisement, and both were the faces of the Korean clothing line ASK Enquired.[26] In April 2009, she released the song "Birthday" featuring duo Awesome New Republic.[27] A version without her vocals was included on their Rational Geographic Vol. I album.[28] Later that month, Meester signed a recording contract with Universal Republic.[24] Meester provided vocals on Cobra Starship's song "Good Girls Go Bad", which peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100.[29] In July, "Body Control" surfaced on the internet.[30] Meester's first official single, "Somebody to Love", featuring R&B singer Robin Thicke, was released for airplay on October 13, 2009, and became available for digital download the following day.[31][32] She recorded a cover of the song "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" for the compilation album A Very Special Christmas 7.[33][34]

Her second single, "Your Love's a Drug", was digitally released on March 30, 2010,[35] and she is also featured on Stephen Jerzak's song "She Said".[36][37] Meester did a duet with DJ Clinton Sparks on "Front Cut", which appeared on the internet in February 2011.[38][39] Lil Wayne worked with her on an unreleased song titled "Make It Rain"[40] and Jesse McCartney wrote another song.[41] The album was produced by Polow Da Don, Harvey Mason Jr., and Spencer Nezey. Meester began working on it in March 2009 and the album was initially projected to be released in the fall of 2009,[24][42] but was later delayed to early 2010.[43] It was pushed back again to late 2010,[44] and was ultimately shelved.

Meester had small roles in the comedies Date Night and Going the Distance.[45] She then starred with Gwyneth Paltrow and Garrett Hedlund in the country music drama Country Strong. Wesley Morris of The Boston Globe described Meester as the best part of the film, writing, "She's just doing Reese Witherspoon's June Carter Cash in Walk the Line with dabs of Miley Cyrus and Kellie Pickler. But it's not an impersonation; it's a performance with its own comedy and sweetness."[46] Claudia Puig of USA Today was also positive, stating "Meester shows she can do more than play one of Gossip Girl's privileged Manhattan socialites."[47] For the film, Meester recorded a cover of the song "Words I Couldn't Say" by Rascal Flatts as well as "A Little Bit Stronger" by Sara Evans featured on the film's soundtrack; a promotional single titled "Summer Girl"; and a duet with Garrett Hedlund titled "Give In To Me".[48] After wrapping, she received a guitar from Tim McGraw and decided to learn how to play it.[49] In October 2010, Meester said she had been working with a band called Check in the Dark and had been writing for the last six months after being inspired by Country Strong. She revealed her influences, "I love Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, that style of music, and as far as songwriting I think that's where my heart is."[50]

Meester in September 2010
In 2010, Meester signed on to be the spokesperson for Herbal Essences hair products.[51][52] In the same year, she took part in Bulgari's humanitarian efforts for the Save the Children organization with Isabella Rossellini and Maribel Verdú.[53] She next fronted a beauty campaign for Korean brand eSpoir.[54] Vera Wang selected her to be the face of the fragrance Lovestruck in 2011, stating that Meester's "beauty, talent and spirit will inspire all the young women that I hope will enjoy this passionate, new young fragrance."[55] The next year, Meester shot a campaign for the follow-up fragrance, Lovestruck Floral Rush.[56] Italian fashion house Missoni named Meester the face of their spring/summer 2011 campaign.[57]

Meester next starred in the thriller film The Roommate as Rebecca Evans, an obsessive, bipolar woman.[58] Though the film received mainly negative reviews, Meester's portrayal was praised. Entertainment Weekly found she was the only one to bring "the slightest trace of something fascinating to her role,"[59] while Los Angeles Times wrote, "[Meester's] performance often has the feeling of a sports car in neutral. When she punches it for quick changes of tone from manic to wounded or around the bend, she shows how much more she is capable of."[60] In the teen comedy film Monte Carlo, Meester portrayed Meg Kelly, Selena Gomez's stepsister and Katie Cassidy's friend.[61] Movieline noted, "As in Country Strong, Meester's crack timing and irresistible poignancy illuminate a part that would leave other actresses simpering themselves off the screen."[62] Her final film of the year, The Oranges, opposite Hugh Laurie and Adam Brody, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.[63] Meester's performance was again met with positive reviews, with the San Francisco Chronicle writing that she "succeeds in embodying all that is alluring and alarming about a 24-year-old woman."[64]

In April 2012, Meester announced via Twitter a five-city tour with Check in the Dark, which started on May 29 and ended on June 4, 2012.[65] Reflecting on her past pop collaborations, she said she "loved" them, but that folk music was "a lot closer to [her] heart."[66] In May 2012, she endorsed the Philippine clothing brand Penshoppe's campaign All Stars.[67] In June, Meester said she and the band had recorded all the songs for an album that served as a demo.[68]

She next starred in the comedy film That's My Boy, alongside Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, and Milo Ventimiglia, which was released in June 2012.[69] The film received mainly negative reviews,[70] was nominated for eight Golden Raspberry Awards,[71] and was a box office failure, grossing less than $58 million, failing to recoup its production budget of $70 million.[72] In August 2012, Meester, Wilmer Valderrama and Vanessa Curry appeared in house music group The Nomads' music video for "Addicted to Love".[73] She was unavailable to reprise her role as Carrie Bishop in the film Veronica Mars due to scheduling issues, and was replaced by singer Andrea Estella of the band Twin Sister.[74] In October 2013, Biotherm, a French luxury skincare company, announced Meester as its new global ambassador.[75]

2014–2017: Broadway debut and Heartstrings
In April 2014, her comedy film Life Partners premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. It follows the friendship between a lesbian (Meester) and a straight woman (Gillian Jacobs) who begin a new relationship.[76] Meester made her Broadway debut in the stage adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men, starring opposite James Franco and Chris O'Dowd.[77] The production filmed and broadcast in cinemas for one night through National Theatre Live, the first Broadway production to be selected by the program.[78] She then appeared opposite Robert Downey, Jr., Robert Duvall, and Vera Farmiga in the David Dobkin-directed comedy-drama film The Judge, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and released in October 2014.[79] Meester next appeared in Like Sunday, Like Rain directed by Frank Whaley, playing the girlfriend of Green Day's singer Billie Joe Armstrong,[80] and By the Gun, alongside Ben Barnes.[81] She won the Best Actress Award for Like Sunday, Like Rain at the 2014 Williamsburg Independent Film Festival.[82] She was the face of French brand Naf Naf's autumn/winter 2014 collection.[83]

On September 9, 2014, it was announced her debut album, Heartstrings, would be released independently through her own label, Hotly Wanting, on October 28. With its style compared to ethereal singer-songwriters such as Tori Amos and Joni Mitchell, the nine-song LP was written by Meester and produced by Jeff Trott.[84][85] The music video for the eponymous title track "Heartstrings" was released on October 29.[86]

In 2015, Meester embarked on a tour to support the album, which began on January 6 in Los Angeles, California and ended on March 2 in San Francisco, California.[87] Later that year, she appeared in advertisements for the Malaysian fashion brand Jimmy Choo.[88] Meester was one of the 100 celebrity narrators featured in the documentary Unity, which had a limited theatrical release.[89] In March 2016, she was cast in Fox's comedy series Making History as Deborah Revere, a colonial woman from 1775 and the daughter of American artisan Paul Revere.[90] The series was cancelled after one season of nine episodes.[91]

2018–present: Guest roles and The Buccaneers
In January 2018, Meester joined the cast of Semper Fi, starring alongside Jai Courtney, Nat Wolff and Finn Wittrock,[92] which was released in October 2019.[93] Meester starred in ABC's Single Parents alongside Taran Killam,[94] which premiered in September 2018[95] and was cancelled after two seasons.[96] In 2018, Meester had a guest role on The Last Man on Earth[97] and in 2019, Meester was a guest star in an episode of The Orville titled "Lasting Impressions" as Laura Huggins.[98][99] She reprised the role in the 2022 episode "Twice in a Lifetime".[100]

In 2022, she appeared in a recurring role of Meredith in How I Met Your Father,[101] starred in the thriller film The Weekend Away,[102] and voiced a role in the animated film My Father's Dragon.[103] She then starred in the holiday film EXmas (2023).[104] In October 2024, she was announced to be joining the cast of The Buccaneers for season two.[105]

Philanthropy

Meester has participated in several charitable campaigns. In 2008, she was a spokesperson for Sunsilk's "Life Can't Wait" campaign, which aimed at motivating women to pursue their dreams.[106] She also collaborated with Safe Horizon in 2009 to raise awareness about domestic violence.[107] In 2015, Meester auctioned off fashion and accessories in a charity auction on eBay. The proceeds benefited Many Hopes, a charity organization that builds schools and homes for children in Kenya.[108]

Meester has been volunteering with the non-profit organization Feeding America since 2017.[109] During her first two years working with Feeding America, she has volunteered at Los Angeles' Downtown Women's Center and assisted with relief efforts in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria in 2017.[110] Meester and Adam Brody also worked with children at Para Los Niños Charter School in Los Angeles, where they helped the organization serve lunches to children.[111] In January 2019, she participated in Feeding America's campaign with Subway and Shamrock Farms.[110]

In May 2019, Meester worked together with Feeding America and Los Angeles Food Bank to help families in need. "Together, we helped fill grocery baskets for families who lined up to receive important staples, like fruit, rice and cereal," Meester wrote in an Instagram post.[112]

In 2021, to encourage donations to help people with congenital central hypoventilation syndrome, Leighton Meester started promoting meetings on the Omaze network ("Win a Coffee Date with Leighton Meester").[113][114]

Personal life
Legal
In July 2011, Meester and her mother, Constance, filed lawsuits against each other over Meester's financial support of her younger brother, Alexander, who has multiple health problems.[123] Meester's suit claimed that her mother used the money she sent for "cosmetic procedures", such as botox and hair extensions. Her mother's suit made a counterclaim alleging breach of contract and physical abuse. Constance claimed that a verbal contract was in place where Meester had promised $10,000 a month, instead of the $7,500 she received. Her mother also claimed that she was due a larger sum in return for "sacrificing her own happiness" when she moved Meester to Los Angeles as a child to pursue acting.

In court, the judge dismissed this claim. Constance accused her daughter of calling social services and fabricating a claim that she was abusing Alexander; investigators interviewed Meester and found no merit in the complaint. In November 2011, Constance dropped the $3 million claim for damages. Meester said that she would be willing to pay for her brother's medical expenses as well as his school tuition, but denied that she agreed to pay $10,000 each month, which she stated was a "ridiculous" claim.[124] Meester obtained a default judgment on December 7, 2011.[125] In June 2012, Meester won the lawsuit, with the judge rejecting the claims in her mother's counter-suit.[126]

Residence and family
Meester resides in Los Angeles. In November 2013, she became engaged to actor Adam Brody, with whom she filmed The Oranges in March 2010.[127] The couple were married in a private ceremony on February 15, 2014.[128] Their first child, a daughter, Arlo, was born on August 4, 2015.[129] In April 2020, it was revealed that the couple were expecting their second child.[130] In September 2020, Brody confirmed their second child, a son, was born.[131] In January 2025, their home was destroyed by the Palisades Fire.[132]
