The US has imposed sanctions on the head of Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, after accusing the group of committing genocide in Sudan's Darfur region.
Washington said the RSF had systematically murdered and raped members of certain ethnic groups in Darfur.
The sanctions also target several businesses based in the United Arab Emirates, including one that handles gold likely smuggled out of Sudan.

The Arab country has faced repeated accusations of arming the RSF, which it has strenuously denied despite the evidence.

Tens of thousands have been killed in Sudan since the war between the country's army and the RSF broke out almost two years ago.

Mutasim Ali from the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights joined us from Kamapala, Uganda, to discuss the new sanctions.
