Moses does go to the top of Mt. Pisgah and according to DEU 3:27 he looked in all directions so he was close, maybe at the edge of what would be the land of Reuben. But Moses would not cross westward across the Jordan River.
That ends only where we could predict it would end: In humiliation and defeat. They are pursued and pursued as far as a place called Hormah = named so because of the destruction to the Israelites. That led to the Israelites wandering for 40 years in the wilderness.
As Israel had begun at Kadesh-Barnea before the death sentence of that older generation, they have come back to Kadesh-Barnea to mark the end of the wandering.
What those spies feared most comes true, those very enemies that the spies focused on as obstacles come after the Israelites, taking captives. do the things that we fear not only control us, but actually do come to destroy us, to one degree or another.
8 The LORD said to Moses, “Make a snake (saraph = fiery serpent) and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.”This is a foreshadowing of Yeshua on the Cross. Notice the phrase anyone can look at it and live, salvation is available to all.
Most of these battles are found in the book of Joshua. These were not only battles to take the land that GOD promised to Israel, but they were also part of a unique war of judgment against the Canaanites. The Canaanites as a people, a culture, were a very depraved people, whom GOD literally gave hundreds of years to repent. The main enemy in the promised land was the Canaanites, but there were others.
