Hello, i came last time to speak about why students were not being removed from classrooms/suspended/expelled. i told everyone that it was because the schools lose funding.

i would like to bring up some concerns with safety for students and for teachers as well in the schools.

the policy states (in Student Services 2403 STUDENT SUSPENSIONS AND EXPULSIONS )

Pending appeal to the
superintendent/designee, the student may continue to
attend school unless the student shall be found by the
principal to be a continuing danger to self, other
students, staff, and/or property, or to present an
ongoing threat of disruption within the school.

so the question for all people with students in the schools then becomes, why did a student attack a sherriff, and a teacher, and give the teacher brain damage, but then the student was allowed back in the school the very next day?

shouldnt the principal have found that the student was a danger at that point?

why is another school being sued for 15 million in stafford right now for not properly protecting a student from being bullied?

why are there so many cases of this happening? surely the students see that when another student gets into an altercation and literally gives someone brain damage, and that student is right back in the schools the very next day, that they think they too can get into fights or break rules and have ZERO CONSEQUENCES?

also, what about the policy for teachers to even break up fights? The teachers are required to have "Handle with Care" training before they are able to "legally" intervene in a fight. Otherwise, it can be considered an "assault" by the teacher on the student, and that teacher will be fired and most likely have their teaching license revoked.

the policy is that the teacher can only say verbally 'oh hey please stop', without yelling or raising their voice because that is also not allowed. the teacher has to HOPE that another student will come intervene and pull the students apart.

by the way the "HANDLE WITH CARE" training costs a lot to give and it not mandated for teachers. making them literal sitting targets.

do parents understand that the schools have now become an actual war zone and your students are not safe? the schools will not even remove students that are actively dangerous and giving people brain damage.

i am here to ask the Board to consider in it's amendments to the Code of Conduct a stronger stance on discipline for kids being removed from class for behaviors that are considered disruptions to the learning environment. Most don't because they either don't know it's an option or principals aren't willing to suspend for that.

however if there is no strong stance on discipline for behaviors that are disruptions, why wouldnt students see that and decide that they can all cause disruptions because they would expect zero consequences

its not fair to the students that actually want to learn and are behaving to have to be FORCED to be in classrooms with students that cause disruptions for the entire class period. it infringes on their right to receive an education.
