Comet ATLAS (C/2024 G3), discovered on April 5, 2024, is set to make a close approach to the Sun on January 13, coming within 8.3 million miles—over three times closer than Mercury’s orbit.

It could shine as brightly as Venus or even become visible in daylight, though observing it will be challenging due to its proximity to the Sun.

Best viewed from the Southern Hemisphere near sunrise or sunset, the comet might not survive its intense solar encounter, Newsweek has reported.
