Did Samuel have an imaginary friend or was Miguel simply a friend at another school?

"He shot my teacher and he shot THE kids." No mention of teacher(s) by name; not shot "my friends" or "classmates." He speaks like a third-party observer of an event that he was not involved in - the way someone would write a script.
