Multiple handguns including Shadow Systems, Smith & Wesson, and Colt models have been added to California's roster for 2025, marking a rare expansion of available firearms. Gun dealers must now provide state-mandated "risk of ownership" pamphlets to customers, while the controversial storage law requiring firearms to be locked when not under direct control won't take effect until 2026 despite widespread confusion. The one-gun-per-month limit on private party transfers has been eliminated due to a successful lawsuit against Bonta.
