Winter Pet Care Tips

Unfortunately our friends from Whiteside County Animal Adoption Center were short-staffed and couldn’t bring us an adoptable pet this week, so in their place we’re sharing some ❄️winter pet care tips❄️ alongside some photos and videos of our staff’s pets. They are all naughty, but too loved for us to give them up for adoption! 😂

✂️Leave your pet’s coat longer and avoid any haircuts during the winter months to provide your pet with extra warmth.
🛁If you bathe your pet during the winter, make sure they are completely dry before letting them outside.
🚘Before starting your car, bang on the hood to make sure there’s no stray cats or any other wild animals seeking warmth.
🧊Use pet-safe ice and snow melts to prevent chemical burns on your pet’s paws.
🐾To prevent your pet’s paws from dryness and cracking, use booties and petroleum jelly on their paws before and after going outside.
🧥If your pet is short-haired, consider getting them a sweater or jacket… the cuter the better!
🫨Watch for signs of hypothermia! Signs include excessive shivering, weakness, burrowing and anxiety. If you suspect your pet may be suffering from hypothermia, consult your vet immediately.
🥶All in all, if it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for your pet! Keep both you and your furry friends warm this winter!
