“Flood New York City For Gaza” Press Conference & Rally 1/6/25

Pro-Palestine healthcare workers and demonstrators held a “Flood New York City For Gaza” press conference and rally on Monday, calling attention to damage to the healthcare system in Gaza, for the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and other healthcare workers, and for protection for hospitals, healthcare workers and patients in Gaza.

Dr. Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza, was arrested in an Israeli military raid on the hospital in late December. The Israeli military told CNN that he “was apprehended for suspected involvement in terrorist activities”. (See link below to a CNN article with the quote). Physicians for Human Rights - Israel has petitioned Israel’s top court to compel disclosure of his location, amidst concerns for his safety and treatment in detention.

Monday’s demonstration began outside Tisch Hospital at New York University (NYU) Langone Health, with a press conference held before protesters mobilized for a march in Manhattan. Demonstrators marched to Union Square, where additional remarks were made and a prayer was held in the park.
