Why Is Being a Disciplined Father Important for Your Children?

We can give our kids a smile instantly with something that tastes good or buying them something their friend has that they've been begging for.

We can even get caught doing this over and over again whether it's Christmas or any other day of the week.

Your daughter looks sad so when she asks for another cookie you say yes.

Your son is stressed about school so we buy him a game when he asks for it.

Nothing is wrong with this on occasion. I buy my own kids gifts and give them cookies.

The problem arrives when the cookie, new game, or distraction becomes a needed escape from reality.
It's a problem when the vice becomes something they depend on.

When we do this hundreds or thousands of times over 18 years, we create their dependency.

How about a pattern of eating everytime something bad happens. Ever stress eat? We teach our kids how to do that now.

Your son is crying so you give him a popsicle.
Sugar makes the pain go away.

They will smile now, but you know the pain it causes later.

It shows up in adults as needing to drink to forget about work, marriage, or inner frustration.

Snacking everytime you feel a pang of stress.
Looking at your phone every time you are faced with the reality of your own thoughts.

This is not happiness.

Happiness is what I see on a man's face when they've been struggling to get to the gym consistently for a decade and they finally prove to themselves consistency is possible for them.

Happiness is what i saw on my son's face when we rallied from a 0-4 jiu jitsu tournament to win gold and faced down his fear.

Happiness is what I felt after I quit my job, got ripped, and started a thriving business after being fat, sloppy, and wondering if I would ever have the guts to quit.

Happiness is what happens when you give yourself hope by crushing inner doubt through action.
Happiness is who you are, not what you have or what you eat.

This is what we must teach our children, but we must learn it then model it first.

If you are a man struggling with discipline, habits, and identity I did too.

I created menoffireprogram to help guys as I needed help.
