(Luk 2:1) Now in those days (c. 3 BC), it came about that Caesar Augustus sent out a decree ordering that registration of loyalty oaths be procured from all the people living in the world.
(Luk 2:2) This was the first registration of loyalty oaths to Caesar collected while P. Sulpicius Quirinius was the imperial representative in Syria.
