The AS9 Huntsman, Australia's advanced variant of the K9A1 Thunder self-propelled howitzer, represents a major leap in the country’s artillery modernization. Developed by Hanwha Defense Australia, this 155mm/52-caliber system is designed to meet the Australian Army’s specific needs under the Land 8116 Phase 1 project. With a range of up to 60 kilometers and a fire control system from Kongsberg, the AS9 enhances mobility, firepower, and protection for Australian forces. Manufactured locally at the Geelong facility, it includes upgraded armor, a semi-automated loading system, and NATO-standard enhancements. By replacing M777 howitzers, the AS9 strengthens Australia’s defense capabilities and supports domestic industry with jobs and innovation.
