Well, the year is not even one week old yet, and already we can see how the winds of war from 2024 have set themselves up to blow into 2025. We want to zoom in on two main stories today, on the local, regional and global impact of the political crisis in Mozambique, and the far right wing of Israel’s Knesset calling for the total ‘cleansing’ of northern Gaza - as if the place has not seen enough live-streamed bloodshed, total destruction, and ethnic cleansing/Genocide yet. In the case of Mozambique current reporting mostly looks at the surface level impact and the political stalemate, but, more worryingly, the potential this situation has to allow a deepening, and even territorial expansion of the Islamist insurgency in Cabo Del Gado. We hence ask, is a bigger ISIS/Islamic State/Al Shabaab war imminent in Southern Africa - Mozambique in particular? But, we start off with more evidence of the non-denazification of Ukraine.
