John baptized Jesus to anoint him as the Messiah. The Lord Jesus did not come to repent. The baptism was the launching of his ministry. Through that event, the Father introduced him as his dear Son. Immediately after that, the Spirit led him into the wilderness to spend time with the Father for 40 days and 40 days, but the devil wanted to spoil him by challenging his divine sonship three times. He failed.
