COMPOSTING made EASY

The recipe for composting is basically 50% carbon material like dried leaves, dried grass clippings, or cardboard/old paper combined with 50% nitrogenous materials like pure produce scraps or other pure scraps from food stuffs. And so, CARBON+NITROGEN+AIR=SOIL.

In the video you can see how simple my composting bin set-up was. Shipping crates nailed together make for an effective corner to compost in. A leaf bin can be made out of anything, but I chose to use an old firewood bin. After 3-6 months of adding to a pile, I move the bins over to one side, and then cover the pile with a plastic tarp to sit for another 3-6 months. I could have turned the pile more often to create more aeration and hence, a faster composting effect, but I have found that even without fully broken down compost, I still get a decent result. Plus, I get a polyculture too as the seeds don’t all break down haha. I'm all about polycultures!

For one 250Ib high raw vegan, this set up works. If I were to add 2 more people, I could probable double the bin sizes. The hardest part of composting I have found is finding enough carbonaceous materials to keep my nitrogenous materials fully covered at all times. What happens if the nitro material isn’t covered fully, is bugs appear and are not always easy to get rid of naturally!

REMEMBER TO FULLY COVER YOUR SCRAPS!!!
